Troncones today is still somewhat of a hidden treasure despite all of its pristine oceanfront and natural beauty. It is situated on the Pacific coast of Mexico at the base of a small mountain range, about 31 kilometres north of Zihuatanejo. The surrounding hills are bordered by a spectacular 3 mile stretch of World Class beaches to the west and lush mountains with subtropical hardwood forest and cactus to the north and east.

Surfers from around the World know the small village of Troncones and its 'Gold Coast' is one of the finest surf spots on the entire Mexican coast. In a town where commercial activity is limited and high-rise construction is prohibited, one can enjoy the spectacular setting the way the native inhabitants of Troncones have for so many years.

After the Mexican Revolution, the government thankfully granted the 1600 hectares of land to these displaced workers stating that those who worked the land should own the land. They formed the "Ejido General Emilianio Zapata" in 1978. In 1994, the Ejido divided its 1600 hectares between its 55 men and women. Land has been developed into a school, church, market, kindergarten while other land is still Ejido owned.

With a population of around 500 residents, Troncones still exudes old world, natural charm. On warm moonlit nights you can still see endangered sea turtles laying their eggs in the Troncones sand. Flocks of Pelicans still search the water for fish and dolphins, and whales swim in the ocean waves off the shore.

Newcomers who have built or are building new homes in Troncones are working hard to preserve this fragile ecosystem. Both the Ejido and those that are new to Troncones are committed to preserving and building the best Troncones for everyone.

Troncones Weather:

The area along the Pacific coast here is blessed with over 300 days of sunshine. It is hot during the day, with cool breezes around 31° C. (88° F) and at night it cools down to around 22° (72° F). During the summer months the temperature is about 32° C (90° F) and it rains for almost one hour every day, usually in the later part of the day.

Troncones Beach is known to have just two seasons, winter and summer. These are sometimes referred to as the dry season and the rainy season. November is probably the best time to see this area when everything is green and lush from the rains. The busiest time of the year is from January through April. If you are a surfer the best waves and weather conditions are September through October.
